Computer Housekeeping! Essential or Procrastination?

by Dee Harrison

I have a job, which I need to finish, which is so unbelievably dry and dull that I will do just about anything to avoid it!

I faced the day determined to complete the task, sat down at the computer and instantly noticed that my desktop was cluttered with icons….and so began an 8 hour session of computer housekeeping.

Now, I’m sure the technical people out there will support me in thinking this is time well spent. My registry is clean, my disks are defragged, my programs are tidy, my desktop is uncluttered, complete scans for spyware, malware and viruses have been completed, program upgrades have been downloaded and installed.

We won’t mention the fact that I still get error messages every time I open MSWord or Excel which are something to do with Adobe Acrobat and that, despite following the best advice I can find, refuse to go away.

Here I am now at the end of a very ‘busy’ day left with a feeling of dis-satisfaction because I know in my heart I should have been doing something else. I have justified not getting the one thing done that I needed to get done by keeping myself oh so busy and distracted all day long.

It looks as if it might be a busy evening too!!!
