Expressing Gratitude

When working our way through difficult life situations it is so easy to remain with our focus set firmly on the negatives but there is always something in every situation for which we can be grateful.

I don’t want this to be viewed as a platitude for I mean it as so much more.

I am a great advocate of keeping a journal and I find it the perfect place to record my daily dose of gratitude. In fact I force myself, every day, to find something for which I am grateful and I believe it is this exercise which has allowed me to transit through a recent experience relatively quickly and more or less intact!

It would have been very easy at any time during the last weeks to focus on everything negative that was happening in my life and in the lives of those I love.  However, each and every day there has been something about which I could genuinely offer thanks……

…….The love and support of friends old and new

…….The magnificence of the full moon on Tuesday night

…….The transformation in my cat from scared stray to content, purring lap cat

…….The roof over my head and the warmth of my bed

…….The love of my family

…….and too many other things to mention here.

What has helped enormously is in finding these little nuggets; these hidden treasures which are so easy to overlook when we are burdened or troubled.

Try it for yourself, when you are in a place of overwhelm or despair, actively recall everything for which you are grateful and allow yourself some time focusing on the positive aspects of your life. Allow the light to chase the shadows away.
