How hard it is not to try to own the moods of others.
How difficult it can be to dissociate from the attitude of another, particularly if that other is or was close to you.
The second of The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz tells us
not to take anything personally…..
Don Miguel asserts that we learn at a young age to think we are responsible for everything – (my aside: it could be argued that it is a form of self obsession).
In fact nothing other people do is because of you.
People are the way they are because of their own belief system. Whatever they think or feel belongs to them and no-one else. It is their truth and not a universal truth.
So, if you live with a grinch allow him or her their ways of being, knowing that those ways have nothing to do with you – to do otherwise is to condemn yourself to a world of suffering.
